The To-Do Bar in Microsoft Outlook is a great tool for managing and viewing tasks alongside your email and calendar, helping you stay on top of deadlines and priorities without switching views. Here’s how to create and view tasks using the To-Do Bar.
Open Outlook and go to the View tab on the ribbon.
Click on To-Do Bar, then select Tasks from the dropdown. You can also choose to show Calendar and People in the To-Do Bar.
The To-Do Bar will now appear on the right side of the Outlook window, showing a list of your tasks.
With the To-Do Bar visible, go to the Tasks section.
At the top of the To-Do Bar, you’ll see an area to Type a new task. Click here to enter a quick task.
Type the task’s name and press Enter. The task will be created and added to your task list.
For more details, double-click on the task to open it. This allows you to:
Set Start and Due dates.
Add Priority (e.g., Low, Normal, High).
Include Notes or detailed descriptions.
Set a Reminder to alert you before the task is due.
Click Save & Close once you’ve entered all details.
View Task Details: Click on a task to view it in the Reading Pane, or double-click to open it in a separate window.
Mark as Complete: Once you finish a task, check the box next to it in the To-Do Bar, and it will be marked as complete.
Edit Tasks: Double-click any task in the To-Do Bar to edit its details, change the due date, or update its status.
Organize Tasks by Priority or Due Date: Use the dropdown at the top of the To-Do Bar to sort tasks by Due Date, Start Date, or Priority. This helps you focus on what needs to be done first.
Set Reminders to stay on track for tasks with specific deadlines.
Prioritize Important Tasks using the high priority setting, so they’re easier to identify.
Break Down Large Tasks into smaller, manageable ones to keep track of progress.
